It’s becoming increasingly difficult to work in a conservative catholic school setting with pre-adolescent kids who think they know everything.

In the last week, I’ve been collecting quotes in a small notebook I keep in my desk drawer.  Here are a couple of them:

#1:

Kid:  Miss Jackie, when I’m 30, you’re going to be like 55.

Me:  Yeah…something like that….so?

Kid:  You’re going to be like…really old….

Me:  Um…Kinda…

Kid:  And you’re going to be old and single.

Me: Uhhh….(biting tongue, rolling eyes, and walking away)

#2

Kid:  John McCain has experience because he was in the war.

Me:  So, you think that being part of a war means that you have enough experience to run the country?

Kid:  Yes.  And he’s American.  Republicans are American, that’s why I’m one of those.

Me:  So, non-republicans aren’t Americans?

Kid: Well…they might be Americans, but they’re really freaking weird people.  I know everyone in this room is a Republican.

Me:  I happen to know that your statement is false.

Kid:  Who isn’t Republican?  I’m gonna hunt them down….(motioning with the lego structure he just built and holding it like a gun)

Me:  Uhhh……..(biting tongue, rolling eyes, and walking away)…AND NO WEAPONS IN MY CLASSROOM.
